It’s hot. The days are long. The sun is out in full force and the pristine, blue waters of the beach and pool beckon. Christmas jingles are playing in the background and the hum of festive frivolity is in the air.
It’s basically un- Australian to be spending all Christmas day slaving away in the kitchen. So, here’s what we think makes for a very easy and very delicious feast. All the dishes are perfect for the hot weather and for gathering around the table with family and friends.
This maple glazed ham is the pièce de résistance of your Christmas spread. Not only does it taste mouthwateringly good, but this beauty can be prepped in advance so all you’ll have to do is put it in the oven on the day. Big yes to that.
Nothing says Christmas in the land down under like piles and piles of prawns. We recommend ordering in advance from your local seafood shop or head down to Woolies on Christmas Eve (you’ll have to fight the crowds, but we promise it’s worth it). The best thing about fresh prawns is that there’s no prep work involved, just pop them all in a big bowl over ice and let everyone help (and peel) themselves.
This sweet and tasty salad is the perfect pairing for lunch. It’s a magical combination of flavours, can be prepped in advance and is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. We guarantee it’ll hold its own amongst all the other dishes and even have your guest going back for more.
It just isn’t a true Aussie Christmas without a classic Pavlova. A summer staple and a firm favourite in many households, this dessert is as easy to make as it is delicious. The meringue can be cooked a day or two in advance so all you need to do before you lay it on the table for everyone to admire is layer cream and seasonal fruits on top. Delish!
We hope you enjoy a fabulous day with family and friends and have fun whipping up a few of these delicious dishes for your holiday feasts.
