Want to know one of the best things about living in Yanchep? There’re so many opportunities to get out and about on the weekend with the kids, with amazing beaches, national parks, trails, and bushlands right on your doorstep. Now is the perfect time to get out and about, soak up the Spring sunshine and discover all the beautiful surrounds close to home.

Check out our list below to discover things you can get up to with your little ones this weekend.

Yanchep Koala Boardwalk

We’re extremely lucky to have Yanchep National Park right near Jindowie. The Koala boardwalk is a great opportunity for your little ones to get up close and personal with these Aussie icons. The boardwalk lets you stroll through the branches of the trees, so you can see where the koalas live. They love to climb and sometimes the huge trees make it hard to spot them, but this is also half the fun and can turn into a game of ‘Where’s Wally?’. There’s BBQ facilities nearby which means you can really make a day of exploring everything the park has to offer.

Ghost House Walk Trail

For a day out filled with nature this trail is perfect. It will take you on a journey to discover the natural and cultural history of the wilderness areas in Yanchep National Park. This easy 12.4km loop takes around two to three hours to complete and is suitable for people with no bush walking experience. Along the trail you’ll encounter the sights and sounds of the pristine wetlands and discover the historic remains of the ‘Ghost House’.

The trail starts at the Wetlands Walk Trail and weaves its way around Loch McNess Wetlands, Tuart Forest, Banksia woodlands and the coastal heath, providing plenty of woodland, wildflower, and grassland sights along the way.

Horse Riding

If you have a horse crazy little one, we suggest paying a visit to Wanneroo Riding Centre this weekend. They have a range of trail rides to choose from including a 10km ride through beautiful bushland and shaded woodland. This option is perfect for complete beginners but also has some great canter spots for experienced riders. They also offer a mini trail ride that caters for younger kids three years and older. The half hour ride will lead you through a mini bush trail and parents can choose to ride the trail or walk alongside. Visit their website for more information!

Day out at the Beach

One of the perks of living in Yanchep is your proximity to the beach. Yanchep Lagoon is a stunning beach protected by a reef situated 20 meters offshore, making shallow waters and low waves perfect for kids. The calm waters of Yanchep Lagoon also make it a popular snorkelling spot and an excellent spot for fishing with the kids!

Another beautiful beach to check out is the never crowded, Two Rocks Beach. Only a nine-minute drive from home, this beach boasts some of the most amazing crystal-clear waters, endless stretches of white sand and two magnificent rocks that emerge proudly from the ocean. It also has a children’s park and playground where your kids can refuel with a picnic in between dips.
