Known for its picturesque location and proximity to pristine bushlands, Yanchep is a nature lover’s paradise. If you’re looking for something fun and outdoorsy to do this weekend, then we suggest paying a visit to Yanchep National Park, which is less than 10 minutes down the road. With a variety of walk trails to choose from, it’s a great place to experience a range of unique Australian flora and fauna. So why not plan an adventure and spend the day exploring some of the trails we’ve described below?

Woodlands Walk Trail

The ideal walk for beginners and those keen to try a taster of the Yanchep National Park. This 2.6 km walk trail heads south from the McNess House Visitor Centre and takes you through coastal woodlands. You’ll see a diverse range of trees along the way, including banksia, Tuart, Marri, stunted Jarrah, Sheoak and small pockets of paperbark. If you look closely, you should spot an array of orchid species including spider orchids, donkey orchids and purple enamels.  If you’re lucky, you might even glimpse native birds and parrots, lizards and other native animals that call the park home. Boomerang Gorge

This 1.9km, moderately challenging route is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and walking. However you’re pretty much guaranteed some solitude during quieter times of day. Featuring interpretative signage, visiting ‘Dwerta Mia’ – the ‘house of the wild dog’ – will give you a unique experience of Australia through the eyes of Aboriginal culture as well as offering a better understanding of how the limestone environment has formed over hundreds of thousands of years. Ghost House Walk

One of the more adventurous of the Yanchep trail walks, this 12.4km loop will take you most of the day to complete. So make sure you pack a picnic and plenty of water for your day-long adventure. The trail gets its name from the remains of an old stone house which is called the Ghost House. After trekking through some amazing pristine forest and coastal scrubland, you’ll come across the crumbling frame of the Ghost House. There’s plenty of other sights to catch your attention along the way, as the trail passes through forest, banksia woodlands and coastal heath. The trail ends at Cabaret Cave and is a short walk back to the hub of Yanchep where you can stop for a coffee, a refreshing drink, or something to eat.
